U's Ladies Roach is hat-trick heroine

Colchester Utd Ladies First Team showed a fantastic team performance, and a rejuvinated strike force and secured three points today in their first victory of the season.

Charlene Roach (pictured) hit the the back of the net three times with team-mate Cara McCulloch adding one more to the tally for the U's victorious 4-1 win over Brookhouse Ladies.

Brookhouse had a player sent off in the first half for violent conduct and the U's made their one man advantage count.

Manager, Jane Swift, had to make many changes to the team with several players missing due to illness and injury. However, this bad fortune seemed to inspire the team who put in a superb effort to take their first points of the season. Captain, Nicky Bryan slotted in at right back and England U19 International Bonnie Horwood replaced her in central midfield to partner Debbie Aylward. This seemed to pay dividends and Swift was overjoyed with the performance saying. "With Debbie and Bonnie in midfield they both had a fantastic game and drove the team forward. I would have to give them both player of the match on that alone."

Reserves

Meanwhile, the Reserve team lost out at home to East Thurrock with Karen Dredge the scorer of their solitary goal. Despite coming close on several ocassions and missing out on a blatant penalty decision, the U's could not find the back of the net and left the visitors Thurrock to avenge their defeat of a few weeks ago.

Centre of Excellence

The Centre of Excellence teams made the short trip down to London to take on their Leyton Orient counterparts on Saturday.

All in all it was a successful day with both the U10's, U12's and the U14's registering good wins in difficult conditions.

The U10's & U12's ran out 2-0 winners in their respective games, with Roxanne Gardner and Liz on target for the U10's while Alice Nutman and Stefanie Ellen-Coe secured the win for the U12 side.

The U14's had the best result of the day, a 3-1 win courtesy of a hat-trick from Jordan Feldman which takes the youngsters total goal tally to 13 for this season.
