Kettering Weetabix Youth League

Report on matches played on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th April, 2004.

Under 15's - NFA Cup Semi-finals

Ise Lodge 2; Kettering United 1
League leaders Ise were playing their 1st game since the last round, but went into a 2-0 lead by half-time. Lauren Impey opened the scoring with a good finish after being put through with just the keeper to beat and then Stephanie Donald put pressure on a United defender, who conceded an own goal. United, who had enjoyed their share of the game in the 1st half, pressed hard after the interval, but Ise defended superbly, skipper Kim Walton leading by example and Kaz Elder and Charlotte Dean showing fine form.

Donald saw a shot from an Impey cross well saved, but United deservedly got back into the game when an inch perfect cross by Carlie Norton was coolly slotted home by Nicola Wilson. United continued to dominate, but couldn’t draw level in an entertaining game, aided by a superb refereeing performance.
Kingsthorpe 2; Peterborough United 4
United started well and built up a 2-0 lead inside the 1st 20 minutes, through Ashley Palmer and Sam Iredale, only for Laura Morris to pull 1 back for Kingsthorpe just before half-time. Julie Ikeda restored the 2 goal advantage in the 2nd half, but the home side hit back straight away courtesy of Lucy Bateman. This set up a tense last 20 minutes, with Posh forced back by Kingsthorpe pressure. However, they survived and Amy Rickards made the game safe with a 4th late on.

Under-11's

City Colts A 7; City Colts B 1
The A team came out on top in the in-house “derby”, as they had done in the 1st game of the season, to keep alive their chances of finishing 3rd. Doubles by Katy White, Sophie Watson and Lucy Hopper were added to by Leigh Dean’s single, with Sarah Bowditch replying.
Corby Cougars Inter 0; Peterborough United 1
Posh clinched 2nd place in the table with a hardfought victory over their closest rivals, putting in 1 of the best performances of the season. The only goal of the game came late in the 2nd half, from Zoe Watkins.
Kingsthorpe Leopards 4; Kettering United 0
Despite having players playing out of position, Leopards gained their 1st win since January with 2 goals in each half. United put up strong resistance, with their keeper in good form, but were unable to repel an in form home side, for whom Phillipa Hardy netted twice and Demi Frew and Demi Giles once each.
Kingsthorpe Pumas 16; Kettering Town 1
Pumas made it 18 wins in 18 League games with a comfortable win, thanks to Charlotte Burrows, with a nap hand, Laura Smith and Lauren Handley, with 4 each, Adel Lumb, with a double, and Laura Murry. The Town consolation was credited to Shenice Brown.

Under-13's 7-a-side Blue Division

Bilton Ajax 0; Corby Ravens 5
Ravens completed their fixtures on a high note, with a good team performance. Kirstie Crawford led the way with a hat-trick and was well supported by Lynsey Hayes and Kaley Draper.
Ise Lodge 3; Sunnyside Warriors 1
Ise turned in another fine display, with April burrows and Rosie Maclot controlling the midfield. Maclot got onto the scoresheet, along with Laura Kitchen and Holly Elder, with Becky Miles replying for Warriors.

U13's 11-a-side

Duston Knights 1; Wolverton Wasps 1
Despite fielding only 10 players, Duston put in a fine performance to hold a side that had beaten them 8-0 in an early season fixture. An end-to-end, but goal-less, 1st half saw both sides create chances with both goalkeepers were kept busy. Wasps went ahead when Natasha MacKenzie ran onto a well timed through ball to slot home. Knights responded well, exerting pressure on the Wasps defence and were rewarded when Josie Rickerd equalised with an excellent lob. It was Duston who had the better of the remainder of the game, hitting the woodwork and going close on a number of other occasions.
Goldhay 16; Raunds Tigers 0
Tigers, fielding only 9 players, battled hard against a determined Goldhay, with Hayley Price, Cassie Roberts and Samantha Tomkins tackling tigerishly. Goldhay had 9 scorers, with Zaskia Bennett grabbing a 2nd half nap hand, Elsje Vanes hitting a hat-trick, Amy Bassett notching a double, with the others coming from Kim Mee, Sam Garwell, Tarryn Craft, Elizabeth Morgan, Amber Webb and Christina Panks.
Moulton Magpies 4; Corby Cougars 1
In an entertaining game that was a credit to both sides, Moulton gained some revenge for their Cup defeat earlier in the season, retaining their unbeaten League record and moving up to 2nd in the process. The Roma keeper was particularly outstanding, but couldn’t prevent Lucy Clarke hitting a hat-trick and Kate Markham adding the other. Chelsea Smith responded for Roma.

Under-15's Division 1

Kettering Town 1; Peterborough Diamonds 2
Town had 4 successful games without conceding a goal and Diamonds 4 unsuccessful ones without scoring, but it was the latter that came out on top to avenge their opening day defeat. Diamonds grabbed a goal in each half, through Laura Hings and Stacey Slinn, with Town replying after the interval with a Kylie Evans effort.
Priory Parkside 0; Cambridge City 14
City repeated the scoreline from the team’s previous meeting, in Priory’s final fixture of the season. A dominant Cambridge performance saw Tracy Carter lead the way with a double hat-trick, Rebecca Hewson hit a hat-trick, Emma Farr added a double, with the others coming from Jodie Tucker, Sarah Freestone and an own goal.

U15's Division 2

Rushden Rangers 1; Heelands Rangers 1
An understrength Heelands side shared the points with Rushden and came close to grabbing all 3. The main talking point was an incident that saw the referee temporarily incapacitated as he accidentally got in the way of a Heelands clearance and suffered a nasty looking injury. Ironically, the unwitting perpetrator, Stacey Pym, was the visitors’ best player. Vicky Vickery was on target for Rushden, from a free kick, with the Heelands goal coming from Lacey Henniker.
Sunnyside Warriors Red 7; Duston Knights 0
Warriors moved level with Earls Barton at the top, but have played a game more, after eventually proving too strong for a battling Knights, who could only field 8 players. There was only a 2 goal difference at the halfway mark, but Sunnyside redoubled their efforts after the break to move well clear, with doubles coming from Louisa Doherty, Emma Colbert and Georgia Tippler, while Leanne Duckenfield was also on target.
