THATCHAM TOWN LADIES v AFC Newbury Ladies

Amy Davies put Thatcham ahead on 4 minutes and took the ball on a solo run from halfway to make it 2-0 2 minutes later. The next half hour saw Newbury with most of the play and keeper Cath Venning the busier. Their reward came on on the quarter hour with Newbury slotting home after Thatcham failed to clear a goalmouth scramble. all the home sides probes were being cut out until a free kick from Karen Churchill was turned in by Sandra Hughes to make it 3-1 at half time.

Half-time

Churchill got on the score sheet as she noticed the Newbury keeper off her line and planted a shot over her from 25 yards 5 minutes after the restart. Davies reached her hat trick turning in Hughes cross 5 minutes later. A Churchill corner was headed just wide by Jackie Paul but she made amends immediately smuggling in Churchill's cross at the far post.

The afternoon was spoiled first by the dismissal of Hughes for a retaliatory kick kick near the end, and then as the final whistle was about to be blown, the stretcher was brought on for the hard working Julie Brocks with a return of an ankle injury sustained from a foul in a previous match.
