Wolves Women 2-2 Stockport County

FA Nationwide Women's Premier League Northern Division
Sunday 2nd April 2006
Wolverhampton Wanderers Women’s FC 2 Stockport County Ladies FC 2
Kim Hines own goal (48), Becky Hall (50) Rachel Davies (14, 56)
A wet and windy Bilston Town played host to this hard-fought game which saw Wolves Women start well with the return of Captain Kerrie Manley who was away last week on international duty for Wales, and Hayley Everiss who has been away on her police training course. It was Stockport who took the lead though on 14 minutes, when their free-kick was headed in by Rachel Davies to put them ahead.

Wolves pushed on for the equaliser, and almost got it in the 23rd minute when Becky Hall chipped the keeper and the ball thumped against the cross-bar. Then a Beth Bailey corner came close, the ball just nestling on top of the net, before Wolves put on the pressure with several more corners, but to no avail, and the half finished 1-0 to Stockport.
Half Time: Wolverhampton Wanderers Women’s FC 0 Stockport County Ladies FC 1
Wolves started the second half where they left off, and on 48 minutes Becky Hall got to the by-line and crossed in at pace, forcing Stockport’s Kim Hines to put the ball into her own net to make it 1-1. Just 2 minutes later Becky Hall, this time the receiver of a cross from Chloe Jones, slotted the ball home for a second Wolves goal.

It was now Stockport’s turn to press, winning 2 corners in close succession which Wolves defended well. The pressure paid off and the equaliser came from a throw-in about 12 yards from the by-line, which was collected by Rachel Davies, whose shot was deflected past Natalie Hall in the Wolves goal to make it 2-2.

Both sides fought hard for the winning goal with chances on both sides, but the game ended in stalemate.

Wolves Women are at home again next Sunday 9th April when they entertain Middlesbrough. The game will be at Bilston Town FC, Queen Street, Bilston, 2pm kick-off.
