Dewsbury Rangers Girls
Dewsbury Rangers Girls match reports.
Brighouse & Lightcliffe Rangers Under 11 Girls 1 Dewsbury Rangers Under 11 Girls 0 Brighouse clinched the West Riding Girls League title in an absorbing battle and so ended Dewsbury’s all time 100% away record. Rangers were on top in the early stages with Grace Wilkinson and Lauren Price setting Chloe Sheridan free, only to see her drive skilfully tipped over the bar by the home keeper. The home side were always a threat on the break as defenders Alex Holderness and player of the match Jade Naylor managed to keep on top. However a superb shot on the turn was tipped onto the underside of the bar by Brodie Burton to see the ball drop down and be ruled to have marginally crossed the line. This just spurred the visitors on and kept the pressure on the opposition but couldn’t make the breakthrough before the break. The second half was an end to end battle with Jodie Moore clearing off the line when a goal looked certain. At the other end Shauna Glover was a constant threat and was unlucky not to find an equaliser, but it was not to be, as worthy champions Brighouse continued their 100% record.
Dewsbury Rangers Under 12 girls 3 (Blanchard 3) Tingley Under 12 girls 0 Nicole Blanchard marked her home debut with a superb hat trick in an excellent all round team display. The early stages were pretty much even and defenders Faye Shaw and Danielle Archer had to be at their best to thwart the Tingley forwards. Amy Vickers coped well in goal whilst at the other end Blanchard, Poppy Wilkinson and Victoria Abbott were passing well and set Fay Broderick free on a couple of occasions only to see her efforts denied by the Tingley keeper. As half time approached Blanchard took the ball from a throw in to scythe through and slam the ball into the bottom corner of the net to give a deserved 1-0 half time lead. Rangers soon ensured there was to be no come back as they took the game to the opposition. An accurate goal kick from Abbott found Blanchard free on the right as she again cut inside to beat the defence to notch her and Rangers’ second. A third soon followed as yet another "dead ball" situation was well executed, this time a corner finding Blanchard free to slam home her hat trick goal. Player of the match Wilkinson nearly added to the tally but the Tingley keeper somehow fell on the ball as it looked to have gone underneath her dive and was her side’s saviour seconds later as Blanchard had her at full stretch to tip round the post. A late spell of pressure from Tingley almost gave the a goal that their efforts deserved but Vickers, Shaw and second half keeper Archer were up to the task to ensure a fourth successive clean sheet and a 5th game without defeat.
Rothwell Town Under 14 girls 3 Dewsbury Rangers Under 14 girls 2 (C Ramsden, Dickinson) Rangers went to third in the table Rothwell Town and nearly brought off the shock victory of the season. In fact Rangers took the lead within a minute as Amy Dickinson found Elissa Hill out wide whose pace outstripped the defence and put in a cross shot which the supporting Charlie Ramsden slotted home. Player of the match, on her goalkeeping debut, Kirsty Gomersall, did well to save a couple of goalbound shots as Alice Gibson and Danielle Blakeley in defence were keeping the Town strikers at bay. Emily Spink and Dickinson bossed the mid-field to put in some accurate passing to make full use of the pace of Hill and Ramsden. One such move saw a pinpoint cross from the latter being knocked agonisingly past the upright by Hill. The second goal came as a speculative effort from well within her own half by Dickinson deceived the home keeper to double the lead. Half time came to allow the home side to re-group. As expected the second half saw Rothwell lay siege to the Rangers goal. Just as they had weathered the early storm a home player appeared to take the ball over the goal line before crossing, Rangers defence stood still as Town’s strong frontrunner brought her team back into the game in a controversial manner. Rangers were on the backfoot, as Natasha Ramsden joined the fray to make some timely tackles, however it was the same Rothwell player, despite breaking a finger nail, who slammed in the equaliser. It seemed that Rangers would hang on for a draw but an injury time winner brilliantly created and executed by the home team’s hat trick hero gave them the spoils. There was still time for Spink to drive just wide following a corner. Rangers can feel proud in defeat and must try to take this level of performance into forthcoming games to give them a league victory their efforts deserve.
