A WOMEN'S Edinburgh derby with players as young as 15 had to be called off after a mass brawl broke out on the pitch just minutes before the final whistle. The punch-up took place in the dying minutes of a Hearts and Hibs women's reserve team clash featuring several youth players at Foresters Park in Tranent. The incident, which happened last Sunday, occurred at about the game's 85th minute following an altercation between two rival players. The scuffle prompted parents and coaches from both sides to rush over the touchline before trading blows on the pitch.

As part of The FA's objective to double girls participation in football by 2020 the governing body and sponsors SSE have launched 200 SSE Wildcats girls football clubs across the country this year. W-League Players Request a Wage

AUSTRALIA'S female soccer players are asking for a minimum $11,500 wage in a maiden collective bargaining agreement, as the game faces a huge challenge from a the AFL's women's competition. The proposal, if adopted, is expected to push the cost of running a W-league team such as Adelaide United's to about $200,000 a year. At the moment, clubs receive just $50,000 in funding from FFA for their women's team.

And after seeing the dizzying pace at which the women's game has moved since England's run to the World Cup semi-finals two years ago, Scott says the team must maintain their high standards to keep the players in the public consciousness.
