2017-06-10

AUSTRALIA'S female soccer players are asking for a minimum $11,500 wage in a maiden collective bargaining agreement, as the game faces a huge challenge from a the AFL's women's competition. The proposal, if adopted, is expected to push the cost of running a W-league team such as Adelaide United's to about $200,000 a year. At the moment, clubs receive just $50,000 in funding from FFA for their women's team.

England Women must maintain standards says Arsenal's Alex Scott

2017-06-10

Arsenal's Alex Scott has warned that England Women have the fate of future generations in their hands as the Lionesses prepare for their Euro 2017 mission. The 138-cap right-back is preparing for her fourth European Championship where she will be vying with PFA player of the year Lucy Bronze for a place in Mark Sampson's starting line-up. And after seeing the dizzying pace at which the women's game has moved since England's run to the World Cup semi-finals two years ago, Scott says the team must maintain their high standards to keep the players in the public consciousness.

Dodd shooting for a spot on the FIFA Council

2017-05-07

Early next week the Asian Football Confederation will vote to elect four of its seven representatives to the FIFA Council, the game?s central decision making body. That vote has already been thrown into turmoil as one of the contenders, Kuwaiti Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah, withdrew from the race following admissions made by former high-ranking AFC official Richard Lai of bribery and influence peddling in a United States court. With only the South Korean Chung Mong-gyu, China?s Zhang Jian and the Philippines Mariano Araneta remaining for three of those spots they will automatically be elected with the only vote then taking place being one between four female candidates for the lone remaining slot. That is widely considered to be a two-horse race between Bangladesh?s little-known candidate Mahfuza Akhter and the Australian Moya Dodd, a respected former international player and lawyer with vast experience at both AFC and FIFA level.
