The 31-year-old made her Scotland debut in 2008 and scored 24 goals in 144 appearances for her country. The Arsenal centre-back also represented her nation at the 2019 Women's World Cup.

"Representing Scotland has been an absolute honour and a dream come true," Beattie said.

"Thank you so much to every single staff member and player that has made my experiences so memorable and enjoyable. I've made friends for life."

However, she was scared to open up to coaches about her struggles.

The 26-year-old English striker has struggled with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety throughout her professional football career.

A series of major injuries have only made her professional career more difficult still but following a move to the United States, Farrow is now feeling more positive.

There are not many players who can get close to matching the scoring exploits of Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

But Sammy Rowland of fourth-tier women's side Hashtag United is giving it her best shot.

She is leading the Golden Ball race in the Women's FA Cup with 11 goals in four games ahead of Sunday's fourth-round tie away to Coventry United.

Rowland has hit 27 goals in all competitions this season - 17 of them in her past five games - which is not bad for a player carrying an injury. In comparison, Haaland has netted 31 times this term.

Footballers playing for the world’s richest club could be forgiven for expecting state-of-the-art facilities and maximum exposure – unless they are women.

When the women’s team of Qatari-owned Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last played a home game, hosting Rodez at their Camp des Loges ground outside Paris, viewers watching on their television screens at home could barely make out the players running about on the dimly lit pitch.
