The session, organised by Halifax Friendly Football Club, was first launched in May 2021 with 11 women taking part.

This now averages around 32 per week with two six-a-side games played at once, facilitated by experienced and qualified coaches Ryan West, Patrick Cooling and David Kinnald, who set up what is now known as HFFC in 2002.

Women of all abilities attend the Turn Up and Play session, which David says are perfect for people who are starting out and just wanting to give it a go or those who are looking for a way to get back into playing football.

The WST found the average viewer watched eight hours and 44 minutes of women's sport in 2022, compared with three hours and 47 minutes in 2021.

The research also showed some people watched women's sport and not men's sport in 2022. For example, 8.4m watched Women's Super League games but not Premier League.

In addition, 1.8m watched the Women's Euros but not the men's World Cup, 1.5m only watched the Women's Hundred and 1.3m only watched women's matches at the Rugby League World Cup.

Manchester United goalkeeper Earps, 29, makes the list along with Chelsea and Germany's Ann-Katrin Berger, and Lyon and Chile's Christiane Endler.

The Fifa Best Awards are presented annually by world football's governing body.

The 2022 winners will be announced in Paris on 27 February.

Earps started every game as the Lionesses won Euro 2022 and recently became the first goalkeeper to keep 50 clean sheets in the Women's Super League.

Saudi Arabia has launched its third women’s national team – the Under-17 squad – with 28 players already underway for a training camp in Riyadh this weekend.

The formation of the new team represents the latest sign of the rapid transformation of the women’s game in Saudi Arabia since the inception of a dedicated women’s football department at the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) in 2019. The squad will hope to follow in the footsteps of their senior counterparts who were recently crowned champions on their international friendly tournament debut and are well on their way to officially entering the FIFA Rankings List next month.

The 26-year-old, who has five caps, joins the club with interim head coach Leanne Ross' side top of the SWPL table and in the Scottish Cup fifth round.

She is the second arrival in two weeks, with South Africa winger Linda Motlhalo joining after leaving Djurgardens.

"I'm so excited to have signed with Glasgow City," said Oscarsson, who can also play in defence.
