The 34-year-old has made 181 WSL career appearances - one shy of the league record - with her final Hammers game coming against Tottenham on Saturday.

Having won two league titles with Liverpool, Longhurst joined West Ham in 2018 and reached the FA Cup final in her first season.

"It has been an honour to be a part of West Ham United," she said.

Victoria Williams, Kayleigh Green and four-cap England international Danielle Carter will also depart following the club's escape from WSL relegation.

The five players have made more than 400 appearances for Brighton combined.

Williams played 104 games and was named club captain by former manager Hope Powell.

Adramatic final day of the WSL season awaits with all eyes focused on the action at both ends of the table. Describing the survivors of a relegation battle as having made a “great escape” seems cliched but it is an accurate representation in these circumstances – for whoever stays up out of Leicester and Reading, the achievement will be remarkable. The stakes could not be higher – Leicester travel to Brighton having to match Reading’s result; Reading must beat Chelsea and hope the Foxes falter.

The former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen has announced she will retire after Everton’s final game of the season against her former club Manchester City on Saturday.

The 31-year-old started her senior career with Everton in 2008 and played for Birmingham, City and Lyon before returning to Merseyside three years ago.
