The unwanted impact of postponing Women’s Super League opening weekend

The opening weekend of the Women’s Super League has been officially postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The announcement delivers a double blow for the clubs, players and fans after a huge summer for women’s football which saw England’s Lionesses crowned European champions.

On the eve of what was meant to be the start of a new era for the WSL, there were concerns raised about whether the league could properly capitalise on the summer’s Euro success.
