Jonas Eidevall calls for women's football calendar to put player health first

Arsenal are dealing with a swathe of injury problems to key first team players, with Leah Williamson, Rafaelle, Kim Little and Beth Mead all currently long-term absentees.

Arsenal allowed Caitlin Foord and Steph Catley to have time off from club football in February after the 2022 Women's Asian Cup, while Vivianne Miedema was recently granted a leave of absence to 'rest and recharge'.

"There is always the balance between freshness and having continuity in the training and playing," Eidevall said. "We need to strike that balance. You can see that Viv was fighting really hard today with the team on the pitch."

Lionesses skipper Leah Williamson says she can't enjoy Qatar men's World Cup

Williamson, 25, is the only living English footballer to lift a major tournament trophy after leading the Lionesses to Euro 2022 glory last summer. But although she wished her men's counterparts well as they aim to 'bring football home' for the second time this year, the Arsenal defender believes issues surrounding host nation Qatar have completely overshadowed the football on the field.

Arsenal's Williamson is currently injured but is set to lead England to the women's tournament in Australia and New Zealand next summer. And the Lionesses captain told the Mirror that the issues surrounding Qatar completely ruin any potential enjoyment that she normally gets from watching international tournaments.
